The Skagit Valley Tulip Festival is one of the destination events for the Pacific Northwest, held from April 1-30, celebrating millions of tulips bursting into bloom. As with all things governed by Mother Nature, the tulips bloom according to their own schedule sometime during the festival. The tulips allow us to share our corner of the world and showcase Skagit Valley agriculture.

We depend on a strong volunteer base to keep our office up and running and to put on our festival activities. Creekside Continuing Care Community sponsors our volunteer program with nearly 50 volunteers.

Our festival is designed as a driving tour as there is no one “site” to enter. The fields of tulips are scattered throughout the Skagit Valley as are the many events and activities that comprise the festival. The tulip fields are the crops of RoozenGaarde/Washington Bulb Co., Inc. and Tulip Town. Due to crop rotation, the fields are in different locations each year. Both RoozenGaarde and Tulip Town also have displays of tulips in gardens for visitors to view and photograph.

As the festival continues on its journey – now for 34 years – we welcome people from across the United States and from around the world. In 2016 we were proud to greet visitors from all 50 states and from 93 foreign countries.

History

From humble beginnings, the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival grew. It moved from 3 days to 10, then 17 and now, for the past 5+ years, to 30 days. The expansion to 30 days was to ensure that the huge fields of tulips grown in Skagit Valley would actually bloom sometime during the festival, since a shorter festival sometime missed the blooming of the fields.

Today the festival boasts an amazing assortment of events — art shows, gala celebrations, concerts, tours of local shellfish and cheese operations and an open house at PACCAR. Two signature events have grown along with the festival –the Downtown Mount Vernon Street Fair and the Kiwanis Salmon Barbecue – fundraisers for both organizations that have proven highly successful. There are lots of physical activities associated with the festival as well – a run, 20- 40- and 60-mile bike rides, and a youth basketball tournament.

Getting Here

The Skagit Valley Tulip Festival is a perfect destination for either a day trip or a longer vacation. We are adjacent to I-5, 60 miles north of Seattle and 70 miles south of Vancouver, BC, Canada. You will need a map of the tulip field area to help you navigate as the fields don’t have addresses and their location changes every year due to crop rotation. In addition, the fiestival map on our website shows locations of all our events and attractions.
