Located in the urban ocean-side beauty of Jericho Beach Park in Vancouver, BC the 40th Anniversary Vancouver Folk Music Festival runs July 13-16, presenting a roster of global folk and roots music from 20+ different countries on seven summer beachfront stages. Over 65 acts are slated to perform, including Billy Bragg & Joe Henry, Grammy-winning songstress Shawn Colvin, Rhiannon Giddens from the Carolina Chocolate Drops, Kathleen Edwards, Barenaked Ladies, jug band legend Jim Kweskin with Meredith Axelrod, Scotland’s RURA, women’s music icon, Ferron, Korrontzi from the Basque Country, Native North America, Haiti’s Chouk Bwa Libète, Congo’s Mbongwana Star, the sing-along fun of Choir! Choir! Choir!, and more!
This year, the festival starts on Thursday night, July 13th with a free concert on site: Canada Far & Wide: Grands Esprit featuring seasoned and up-and-coming artists performing songs from the acclaimed Canadian songbook.
Workshop session and concert stages start on Friday afternoon, July 14, with six daytime stages running Saturday and Sunday, July 15 and 16 from 10am – and Evening Main Stage concerts on all three weekend nights.
Additional onsite attractions include the Little Folks Village, where kids and families can have lots of fun, the one-of-a-kind arts and crafts in the Artisan Market, the Food Area featuring a global buffet of delicious options for every palate, the Community Village, Francophone Jam Tent and an outside Folk Bazaar full of imported treasures.
