Seattle Center Festal presents Irish Week Festival, March 16 and 17. Explore and experience the cultural roots and contemporary influences of Ireland through live performances, visual arts, hands-on activities, foods, games, and a lively marketplace. Irish tunes, step dancing and the Irish jig keep the energy flowing at this Irish Week Festival. Festival-goers may trace their roots in genealogy workshops, learn the Irish language and take in colorful cultural exhibits and contemporary Irish short films. Meet Irish celebraties; view Irish movies, cultural exhibits and demonstrations and have a “great craic” (gaelic for “a great times.”).

The Festival features booths selling Irish and Celtic products, non-stop Irish music, singing, dancing, workshops, lectures, cultural displays, children’s contests and activities, etc.

Festival Highlights also include Genealogy Workshops, Irish Language Workshops, Cultural Exhibits and more. Family-oriented activities include wonderful Irish Musicians along with Champion Irish Stepdancers from around the Pacific Northwest.

Events for children include the “Smilingest Irish Eyes Contest” and the “Most Irish-Looking Face Contest”, and other activities in the Children’s Activities Center. Contemporary Irish short films will be screened during our Irish Reels Film Festival (see schedule of films at



  • A demonstration of Glass Engraving on Saturdayand Sunday by Ireland’s premier glass artist,Róisín de Buitléar.
  • Biotechnologist Dr. Tyrone Bowes presents an all-day Noon-5 pm workshop on Sunday on using commercial ancestral DNA testing to pinpoint a person’s Irish and other ancestors.
  • Seattle-based Irish-born photographer Rozarii Lynch has an exciting show titled“Connections”, images that evoke the feeling of being Irish and connected to Ireland while living in Seattle.
  • Custom Lego Display of the Battle of Clontarf! A tabletop display will attempt to recreate the epic 1014 battle between the army of Irish High King Brian Boru and that of the Vikings. The display also includes a children’s playzone area.

The Parade travels north on 4th Ave starting from Jefferson to the Reviewing Stand at Westlake Park, and officially ends at the Seattle Center with Closing Ceremonies at 2 PM. The Monorail will be free from 1:30 – 2:30 pm for travel from Westlake Park to the Seattle Center to participate in the 2014 Irish Festival.
