Getting to Know You Happy Hour Series
In advance of the Northwest Chocolate Festival, we thought it would be good to introduce or re-introduce you to some of our favorite micro-batch chocolate makers. We’re featuring chocolate makers who will be attending the Northwest Chocolate festival, which will be held on September 21 & 22 at the Washington State Convention Center. While the festival is always a who’s who of chocolate cognoscenti, this year is particularly notable for festival first-timers, such as Shawn Askinosie and Alan McClure of Patric Chocolate.


July 2, All Day – Half Price Drinking Chocolate

July 6, 1:00pm-3:00pm: Meet the Chocolate Maker: Rob Anderson of Fresco Chocolate.
Join local chocolate maker, Rob Anderson, of Fresco Chocolate and taste the chocolates he makes from single-origin cacao. This is a great opportunity to meet one of the talented chocolate makers from Chocolopolis’ stable of carefully curated origin chocolates. Rob will be sampling his single-origin bars along with some prototypes in development. Bring your taste buds and opinions and help Rob craft his next bar.

July 10, 6:30pm-8:30pm: Kickstarter Kickoff Event: Chocolate samples & chocolatier demos
Visit our kitchen and watch our Chocolatiers in action as they create chocolates for the store. And sample chocolate, of course. If you’re impressed, put a little bit of yourself in each Chocolopolis chocolate by supporting the Chocolopolis Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign.

July 11, 5:00pm-9:00pm: Valrhona Happy Hour featuring Alex Espiritu of Valrhona Chocolate
Join Alex Espiritu of Valrhona Chocolate for a special happy hour. One of the most experienced fine chocolate makers, Valrhona is a French company that creates chocolate from some of the finest cacao beans in the world. Valrhona places special emphasis on developing long-term relationships with cacao farmers around the world, ensuring the farms and their workers are treated well and paid for the quality of the cacao they grow and ferment. Taste Valrhona single-origin chocolate from 5-9pm and join Alex from 6-9pm.

July 13, 11:00am-5:00pm: Queen Anne Days & Sidewalk Sale
The Queen Anne community hosts its annual Kiddie Parade and Queen Anne Days festival in conjunction with the Upper Queen Anne Merchants’ annual Sidewalk Sale. If you’ve always wanted to march in a parade, the Kiddie Parade welcomes kiddies of all ages. Join this 3-block march, then enjoy the Queen Anne Days celebration at the community center and stroll along Queen Anne Avenue for the merchants’ sidewalk sale. Chocolopolis will be offering samples of iced drinking chocolate and other chocolates at its sidewalk table. Shop local and support the community!

July 14, 11:00am-6:00pm: French chocolate samples & videos for Bastille Day
C’est formidable! That’s what you’ll say when you taste artisan chocolate made by French chocolate makers. Celebrate Bastille Day with tastes of chocolate from chocolate makers such as Michel Cluizel, François Pralus, Valrhona and Bonnat. Watch videos provided by Cluizel, Valrhona and Pralus about their chocolate-making techniques.

July 17, All Day – Half Price Chocolopolis truffles
Chocolopolis truffles, hand crafted by our talented Chocolatiers, are half price today. This is a great opportunity to taste truffles that are handmade in small batches using the finest chocolate and all-natural ingredients. Is there more to say?

July 18, 5:00pm-9:00pm: Chocolopolis Happy Hour featuring our own chocolates & Chocolatiers

July 18, 5 p.m. – 9 p.m.: Queen Anne Farmers Market Demo & Happy Hour: Chocolopolis
Pick up your carrots and kale at the Queen Anne Farmers Market and stop the chef booth for a demonstration on how to make fabulous drinking chocolate at home. Continue your chocolate enjoyment with a stop at Chocolopolis for a happy hour featuring treats from the Chocolopolis kitchen. Meet the Chocolopolis Chocolatiers.

July 22, All Day: Half price Chocolopolis chocolate bars

July 25, 5:00pm-9:00pm: Christopher Elbow Happy Hour (meet the man himself from 6-9pm)
Christopher Elbow’s confections have been a staple of the Chocolopolis truffle counter since it first opened its doors in 2008. A world-class Chocolatier from Kansas City, MO, Chris creates gem-like bonbons using the finest chocolate and ingredients. Meet Christopher Elbow and taste confections he’s made just for the occasion using local, Seattle ingredients.

July 27, 11am, 2pm & 5pm: Children’s chocolate tasting
Demonstrating that children often have the most discerning palates, our chocolate guides will teach children how to use all five senses to properly taste chocolate. Children will have a chance to touch a real cacao pod, taste cacao nibs and taste dark and milk chocolate.

Chocolopolis Chocolate Bars

Stop by and taste our own hand crafted creations. We make each of our chocolate bars by hand using the finest single-origin chocolate (Venezuela 69% dark & Venezuela/Maracaibo 38% milk) and all natural ingredients. We’re raising money via Kickstarter to improve and update our packaging. Taste our chocolate bars and learn more about our Kickstarter project.

Our truffles are finalists in the America’s Round of the International Chocolate Awards! This is a huge honor and we’re incredibly excited to be included among other notable chocolatiers from North & South America. Stop by for a taste of some of the truffles we entered into the contest as well as some of our favorites. Find out more about our Kickstarter project and help us spread the word.

Getting to Know You: Patric Chocolate

Join us for the first night in our Getting to Know You series of happy hours. Tonight we’re featuring Patric Chocolate, made in small batches by a very talented chocolate maker named Alan McClure. Located in Columbia, MO, Alan is one of the founding members of the Craft Chocolate Makers of America. His focus on perfection in both flavor and texture is notable. His chocolate has played an important role in our selection since we opened. While Alan won’t have a booth at the festival, he’s attending for the first time. If you see someone who reminds you a bit of Wolfman Jack, that’s Alan.

Getting to Know You: Rogue Chocolatier

Another chocolate maker who’s been around for awhile (in the artisan chocolate world that means 7 years), Colin Gasko is a perfectionist who won’t release any chocolate before it’s time. He is incredibly skilled at coaxing amazing flavor out of cacao and creating chocolate with some of the best texture we’ve tasted. While Colin won’t have a booth at the festival, he, too, will be around and may be on the speaker’s schedule. Stay tuned for the speaker’s schedule when it’s posted on the web.

Getting to Know You: Fresco Chocolate

Local chocolate maker Rob Anderson has been crafting bean-to-bar chocolate in Lynden, WA since 2008. An engineer by training, Rob designed his own chocolate processing equipment to give him the capabilities he wanted. All of Rob’s bars provide both a roasting and a conching style on the wrappers, giving you the opportunity to taste the different notes that come from different processing styles.

Getting to Know You: Grenada Chocolate

Grenada Chocolate is a special company, one that’s owned by a cooperative of cacao farmers on the island of Grenada. Founded in 1999, the stone ages in the world of artisan bean-to-bar chocolate, Grenada produces organic chocolate from its own cacao beans in a small, tropical factory using equipment that has been modified to run on solar energy. Grenada was organized by Mott Green, a colorful and passionate character who passed away recently. Grenada carries on the passion and tradition that Mott helped them create and will be at the NW Chocolate Festival. Stop by tonight to taste their chocolate.

Dandelion Chocolate

Stop by for a taste of three origin bars by Dandelion Chocolate. We’ll be tasting Patanemo, Venezuela, Papua New Guinea and Madagascar. The Papua New Guinea is the newest bar to our collection, and it offers wonderful brown fruit notes of raisins, figs and prunes.
